This guide has finally made it to print. After years of playing the Arma series, I've been following the author's tips and consuming his online content for quite some time. Large parts of this guide have always been available on Andrew's website and I've always been confused as to why it was not available in print.The Arma series has ruined almost every shooter for me by allowing me to play as various types of infantry, fly helicopters, drive tanks, drop JDAMs on tanks, fire artillery shells on enemy positions several miles away, keep my map & compass navigation skills sharp, and have an overall great time in a staggeringly large environment. Andrew "Dslyecxi" Gluck, has been a tremendous contributor to the community of this amazing game series and this book is the culmination of his expertise.
This book is more than just a guide for Arma 3, you can use this information to improve your skills in any type of military shooter. Much of tactics and skills shown in this book can also be found in field manuals for the real world's armed forces, this verifiable once you see the bibliography. The most important aspect of staying alive in Arma 3 is by far situational awareness. This concept is underscored throughout this guide and explained in vivid detail.

Overall, this is an excellent reference for anyone who plays or is interested in playing the Arma series. ShackTac has a lot of experience in making this series fun to play while conducting large scale operations that require a lot of preparation and planning. As of the writing of this review, the color version is not available on Amazon but it exists. This is a tactical guide that will help keep you alive in Arma, but it does not include any info about alternative input options that will only enhance your experience (TrackIR) and doesn't really mention Arma's massive modding community... but after all, this is a TACTICAL guide.

I've only had a quick skim through and havent read it in detail yet, but my first impression was 'this needs colour photos'.

awesome book chock full of great tactical advice and how to play the game tips. well worth the price.
Depends on your level of EXPERIENCE. I started reading the book a week or two before I started playing the game. However, more and more it seemed a waste of MY time.
I had hoped to learn some things about HOW TO PLAY the game, but could not even find anything about the keyboard or controls, even within the description of a HOW TO. The Guide is more for experienced and advanced players, not noobs and beginners. You really have to READ the TITLE, Arma 3 TACTICAL Guide. It is in fact about tactics and NOTHING about what to do in order to play that tactic.
I also found the instructions IN GAME hard to follow. The reason it that there many, many different things that you CAN DO, and therefore there are probably over 100 different controls that you can use, maybe even TWO HUNDRED different controls.
However, that said, I have been a FPS gamer for over 20 years, starting way back in the early 90's with the Rainbow Series, America's Army ver. 1.0 to today's AA Proving Ground, all of the Battlefield games, and a few CoD (didn't much care for the Run-n-Gun KIDS).
BUT after playing ArmA III for 2 months now I have to say it is the BEST, most in depth FPS, military sim/game that I have EVER played. Funny 5 years ago I SWORE that I would never pay more than $50 for a computer game. When Battlefield 4 came out I WAITED for them to get the BUS OUT, and for the price to go down. Three months after the bug-ridden version came out, I got the PREMIUM Version for $39.99, and it was bug free, for me. After reading so many reviews and watching lots and lots of game play video I went ahead and gave in and paid $59.99. Sadly it was only ONE WEEK after Steam had it on sale for $30. IF I HAD KNOWN about the sale I would have gladly paid the $30, but I do not follow SALES much, and they NEVER occur when you ARE LOOKING TO BUY any way, right? IF Steam sent me ANYTHING about the Arma 3 sale I never saw it!
This is a black and white version of his online guide, and here's the thing, though arma is the only show in town right now for the military sim genre it does, there's nothing in this guide that could not be held applicable for any combined arms military simulation. A chunk of it could even be relevant if you're running a gaming community for any other type of game.
I would recommend for any ARMA fan. A large part of the book focuses on multiplayer structure, communication, and best practices that applies from anything from a two man buddy team all the way to 100+ man events. I don't have any real criticisms but if I did I would have preferred a little more content aimed at refining basic gameplay for the individual or more heavily covered tactics on the two or three man buddy teams that frequent co op and multiplayer. I understand that dyslexci and shack tac are a massive group and this book is written from their experiences but I don't think a group that size is for everyone and believe the "pair of friends" logging on and playing is a more probable scinario. That's not to say that the writings in this book can't be applied to that small team at all because it surely can, but I believe the "meat" of this book would fit a medium to larger group of players very well. I'm glad I made the purchase and hope dyslexci continues to put out not only excellent content in writing, but his mods, community contributions, and passion for everything ARMA.
